What
courses do we offer?
Introduction to Computers
is our most popular eight-class course for those who have
little or no experience with a personal computer. You will
be able to use a personal computer to write letters, balance
your budget, keep records and send e-mail to your friends,
children and grandchildren. You will learn how to use the
personal computer mouse; the basics of the Windows operating
system; Introduce Microsoft Word, and use Microsoft Works Suite, which includes
a spreadsheet, database and graphic program; and
using the Internet. Using
Microsoft Word
is an eight-class course based upon Microsoft Word
program. Students will learn how to open a document and
type a letter using advanced techniques. You'll learn
how to do mass mailings, and more.
Take Control of Windows XP is an eight-session course. Students
will learn the various features of Windows, including adding
and removing programs, putting shortcuts to programs on the
Desktop, restoring deleted files and changing the properties
of the desktop display using the Control Panel, and much
more. Make the computer your slave.
Take Control of Windows Vista is an eight-session course. Learn the major parts of Windows
Vista, Microsoft’s newest operating system. Learn to use
Vista’s new features along with how to organize files into
folders, find files on your computer; customize the Start
Menu, Desktop and Taskbar; add/remove programs and update
Windows
Introduction to Digital
Photography This
eight-session course introduces you to digital photography
and the many wonderful things you can do with digital
photographs. Digital cameras are provided for use in class
or you bring your own.
Introduction to Spreadsheet
is an eight session course. You will learn how a
spreadsheet can make it easy to create and maintain a
budget, monitor checking account activity, or create a club
treasurers report, and more.
Internet and Email is
an eight-class course with emphasis on e-mail using Outlook
Express, and how to conduct searches on the Internet using
Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Learn Googling, and more!
Google™ If it's out there on
the Internet, you'll be able to find it after taking our
Google course. Amazing!
Image Editing with Photoshop
Elements 6- Digital photographers - this course is an
introduction to the basic features and functions of this
sophisticated image-editing software. The course covers the
software’s Downloader and Organizer features, the Toolbox’s
basic editing tools plus the “Quick Fix”, "Guided Edit" and
“Full Edit” functions
Internet Explore the
magic of the Internet in this five-session course. Protect
your privacy and keep your computer secure when searching or
exploring popular places on the World Wide Web.

Introduction to Genealogy
is an eight-session course, using the
popular
Family Tree Maker software. You will learn about
resources available, especially on the Internet, which you
can use to find out more about your roots.
Introduction to Quicken
Our six-session course helps you master
Quicken software. The result is that you will have
better control and understanding of your finances.
Image Editing with Photoshop Elements is
a eight-session course where you will learn how to
crop and resize, adjust brightness, contrast, and color of
digital images. You'll
learn how to bring class to your snapshots.
Who are
we? We are a group of dedicated volunteers interested
in passing on our computer skills to senior citizens 50
years old and older. There are many perks in volunteering,
including meeting great people. You do not
need to be a computer whiz to volunteer.

We are affiliated with the national
SeniorNet nonprofit
organization. This means you can make friends with
others in the hundreds of SeniorNet locations around the
world. Plus, you can find groups of people sharing
your interests. There are even discounts for
certain services that come with full membership. |
Where are
classes held?
Classes are held in the SeniorNet
Learning Center located in the Germanow Gallery at the
Jewish Community
Center of Greater Rochester, 1200 Edgewood Avenue in
Rochester. Directions. The
classroom has ten high-performance computers, with the
bright and clear new LCD displays. There is one
computer for each
student. Our computers use both the Windows XP or the
Vista operating
system, depending on the course. We do not teach the Macintosh computer.

There's ample parking for students close to the classroom.

|
The Rochester JCC generously provides space to SeniorNet. The JCC also offers a restaurant, healthclub, and other facilities.

When are classes
scheduled? Each course normally meets for two hours,
once per week, in the morning, afternoon or evening. For the
day-by-day schedule of activities at the Learning Center see
the course schedules.
How much do
classes cost? Class prices range from $40 to $75.
For 2008: no other membership is required to take
classes. But call about the benefits of membership in
the National SeniorNet organization.
