Note that classes are held during
three periods during the day. Normally AM classes are
from 9:30 - 11:30 AM, PM classes are 2:30 - 4:30 PM and EVE
classes are from 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Check exact times when you
complete your registration. Most classes can accommodate
10 students, except as noted below. |
Introduction to Computers
A friendly introduction to personal computers for
beginners. Learn to use the mouse & keyboard, manage files and folders
using Microsoft Windows XP, “surf the Internet”, send and receive email.
Introduce word processing using Microsoft Word and database &
spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Works. (Max. 9
students per class)

Google
Google is a powerful, but simple, Internet search engine
that allows you to search billions of web pages. This course gives you a
thorough, but concise, explanation of how to productively use its
features. You will use practical examples that demonstrate how you can
locate the information you seek. If it’s out there, you can find it.
Don’t search, Google! Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet
Skills. This is a 4 session
class.

Using Microsoft Word
This class builds on the Introduction to Computers
class. Learn to copy, save and print Microsoft Word documents, type a
letter, edit & spell-check text, make documents interesting using
color, bold, underlining,
different fonts, tabs & custom page
layouts. Learn advanced features such as: tables, lists, footnotes,
drawing insertion, find/ replace, and form letters & mail merge. Prerequisite:
Basic computer skills including some experience with word processing.

Take Control of Windows XP
Learn the major parts of the operating system, how to
organize files into folders and find files anywhere on the computer;
customize your Start Menu, Desktop & Taskbar; add/remove programs &
update Windows; optimally keep data on your hard disk; add/remove
hardware; & protect your data by doing backups. It’s taught using
Windows XP, but much of the material covered is applicable to Windows 98
and Windows ME Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.

Image Editing with
Photoshop Elements
This course introduces you to photo editing using Adobe
Photoshop Elements software as a “digital darkroom”. Learn how to crop,
resize, adjust brightness & contrast, & change the color of digital
images. Combine your photos with titles, music, narration & transitions
to create a slide show; save it to a CD that a computer or DVD player
can play. Eliminate unwanted items from photos. Combine elements from
several images into a new composition.

Internet and E-Mail
Read, create, send & save e-mail messages & attachments
using web-site software and Outlook Express. Create and edit the Outlook
Express address book. Protect your privacy and keep your computer secure
when searching or surfing the World Wide Web using Microsoft’s Internet
Explorer. Learn how to download information from the web to your
computer and to safely make purchases on-line. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.

Introduction to Spreadsheet
Learn how a spreadsheet can make it easy to create and
maintain a budget, monitor checking account activity, or create a club
treasurer's report. You’ll learn to build and edit worksheets and create
formulas which automatically update your numbers. This course uses
Microsoft Works spreadsheet software. Prerequisite:
Basic computer skills.
Introduction to Digital
Photography
Whether you have been taking pictures for years or would
like to learn what all this digital “fuss” is about, this course is for
you! Get hands-on practice taking good digital pictures, manipulating
them in your camera, transferring them to a computer and enhancing,
printing, distributing, & organizing them electronically. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.

Open Labs
The SeniorNet Learning Center is open from Noon –
2PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Use our
computers to surf the Internet, send e-mail and enhance your skills with
assistance from our excellent coaches.
Ask the Pros!
In addition, on
Wednesdays only, we offer "Ask the Pros"
sessions where current SeniorNet members can receive expert help
with any computer issue. Try and stump our experts
with any computer problem. This is very difficult to do.
JCC non-members welcome to join!
You do not need to be a JCC member to participate in
SeniorNet. If you have any questions regarding your placement in a
