Skype - Use your PC for Free Internet Phone and Video Calls 
Skype - Free Seminar at TechAgeWhen:  Was presented Friday, May 20, 2011: 2:30p to 3:30p

Free Seminar Subject:  TechAge volunteer Dave Lum showed attendees how to use Skype, an Internet service to make FREE video and telephone calls from your computer to another computer. You can chat with old friends around the world or visit with the new grandchild in California using Skype and it is all free. In this introductory seminar, guests saw how to install Skype, what equipment is needed, and how to get in touch with others. Finally, we made a test call.

Skype can bridge the distance gap, and help you keep in touch.

Where: Auditorium C at the JCC of Greater Rochester.

For Who: Open to the public. No reservations were needed.

Cost: Free with free parking.


Finding Medical Information on the Internet
When:  Was presented on Friday, April 15, 2011 - 2:40p to 4:00p Stay Healthy with the Web!

Free Seminar Subject:  Need information on a medical condition or drug? Want to access medical directories and get information about a health care professional, hospital, support system, etc? You can search the Internet, but there is a better way to find current, accurate and reliable information.   The seminar was presented by Medical Librarian June Glaser

Where: Auditorium C at the JCC of Greater Rochester.

Social Networking Seminarfacebook

When: Held in February 2011

What: TechAge Seminar - Get hands on with Facebook and learn to connect with family and friends through the world's most popular online social network. Over the two sessions of this hands-on workshop, students set up a profile, connect, and start sharing. We introduced friending and groups, as well as creating your own special interest pages.

Cost: $20


Getting Comfortable with Digital Photography

When: Friday, October 15th, 2:30 -3:30 pm,

What: TechAge Seminar -  John Jones, manager at Rowe Photo Video and Audio helped us get comfortable with the transition from film to digital photography. John discussed the features and advantages of digital cameras, demonstrated a variety of cameras available today, how they differ and what to look for when purchasing a digital camera.

Who is Invited: This talk was free and open to the public.


Windows 7Windows 7 - New Features, Tips & Tricks Held on August 27th

When:  Friday, August 27th, 2:30 - 3:30 pm at the JCC

What: TechAge Instructor, Joel Elias, demonstrated new features of Microsoft's latest computer operating system, Windows 7, along with tips & tricks to help you get things done on your computer and Q & A.

Who is invited: The public was invited, with no reservations needed. Free!

TechAge guests at Open House on April 29, 2010TechAge Open House

The TechAge Learning Center held a free open house on Thursday, April 29th from 1 - 3 pm. Our dozens of guests saw how TechAge offers "Computer classes for adults, taught by adults.".

They enjoyed demonstrations, plus snacks.

TechAge is located at the JCC, 1200 Edgewood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618. JCC membership is not required.


iTunes/iPhone/iPod Seminar Presentation from Apple at Rochester TechAge

What:  Steve Rea, Keith Jackson and Rick Harrison of the Apple CIDER computer users group showed us the amazing things you can do with the free iTunes application, iPhones and iPods.

How to Access Medical Information on the Internet

What was covered: This hands-on, in-the-lab session is designed to help individuals search for reliable information on the Internet and become more informed health care consumers.

Requirements: Basic computer skills and a Monroe County Library card

For Who: The seminar was open to TechAge students, members and active TechAge Volunteers and is free of charge.

Limited to 10: Pre-registration required

(alternate title: complete your collection by buying on eBay)

PROGRAM: TechAge volunteers Dave Lum and Michael Slade revealed why eBay is so popular as a way to do business.  In this seminar, guests learned how to use eBay's website to set up your shopping account, and buy and sell.  This was an introductory overview seminar, providing a summary of how you yourself can go online, and be safely buying and selling.
