winter we are set up to help you master your computer and have fun with a
wide variety of courses. Read these computer course descriptions
to find out what's of the most interest to you.
Our "Introduction to Computers" course is
suitable for everyone: we will help you learn how the computer can be
used to keep in touch with others, as well as solve everyday problems.
To make sure the class is suited for your skills, other course overviews
include a description of prerequisites.

Introduction to Computers
SeniorNet’s most popular class for beginners. You will learn
the skills you need to get comfortable with your computer and use the
tools it offers you. By the end of this class you will be “surfing the
Internet”, sharing e-mail with friends and family and using word
processing and spreadsheet applications. Pick the class that
uses your version of Windows: XP or Vista.

Using
Microsoft Excel 2007
Learn how to use spreadsheets to easily create and maintain budgets,
monitor investments, track checking account activity, or create Club
Treasurer’s reports. Excel helps you build and edit worksheets using
formulas which automatically calculate your numbers so you’ll never have
a math error again. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills & a Flash
drive available from SeniorNet.

Using
Microsoft Word 2007
Whether you are writing a short note, a letter to family or friends,
a flier or a book, Microsoft Word 2007 makes it easy and fun.
Personalize your documents using interesting fonts, color, bolding and
underlining. Avoid mistakes - Word automatically checks your spelling
and grammar. Use advanced features to change margins, create tables,
lists, footnotes and insert drawings and pictures. Even create form
letters & use mail merge to personalize letters and envelopes with names
and addresses. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills including some
experience with word processing.

Take
Control of Windows
Want to go beyond the basics and feel like you are in charge? Learn
about the major features of the operating system; how to organize files,
and find them anywhere on your computer. Customize your Start Menu,
Desktop and Taskbar; install and remove programs; keep your computer
safe and up-to-date; protect your data and back it up.
Prerequisite:
Intermediate computer skills. Pick the class that uses your version
of Windows: XP or Vista.

Introduction to Digital Photography
Get the most from your digital camera. In this “hands-on” class
you’ll learn how to use your camera’s features and controls and simple
techniques to take better pictures. You’ll also learn to transfer photos
to your computer, organize and edit them using free software, e-mail
them to friends and family and upload them to the Internet for sharing
and printing. Prerequisite: Basic computer skills.

Image Editing with
Photoshop Elements
Learn to improve your photos with this popular image editing
software. Organize your pictures with the Photo Organizer. Improve them
with four editors, Fix, Guided Edit, Quick Fix, and Full Editor. Fix
common photo faults - remove blemishes and unwanted objects. Lessons
include color correction, adding text and graphics, layer techniques and
printing options. Prerequisites: Intermediate computer skills
with experience in word processing and digital photography

Internet and E-Mail
Learn to take advantage of all the Internet offers. Communicate with
friends and family around the world with e-mail and access the wealth of
useful information available on the World-Wide-Web. This course takes
you beyond the basics and shows you how to protect your privacy and keep
your computer secure. Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet
skills.

Google
Use the Google search engine to get the information you want, when
you want it. Who was the 23rd president? 5th Marx brother? What’s a
quark? News, maps, directions, best prices…? This course will show you
how to get the most from Google. It’s all there and more – at your
fingertips. Name it, you’ll find it with Google. This is a 4-lesson
course. Prerequisite: Basic computer and Internet skills.

Basic Internet skills:
- Minimize/Maximize windows
- Basic computer skills with emphasis on using a browser to
“surf” the Internet and use e-mail.

Free
Open Labs
The SeniorNet Learning Center is open to all adults 50+ from Noon –
2PM Monday, through Friday (subject to change). Use our
computers to surf the Internet, send e-mail and enhance your skills with
assistance from our excellent coaches. Neither SeniorNet nor JCC
membership is required. Open to the public!
Ask the Pros!
In addition, on Wednesday's only
(September through December) we offer "Ask the Pros"
sessions where current SeniorNet members and current students
can receive expert help
with any computer issue. Try and stump our experts
with any computer problem. This is very difficult to do.
JCC non-members welcome!
